🪜 Step-by-Step Installation Guide (Standard Channel/Stud System)
We will detail the Standard Channel/Stud System, which is the most common and cost-effective method for installing both plain and designer gypsum ceilings.

Installation Procedure
Step 1: Accurate Measurement & Material Calculation
- Measure the room dimensions and convert them into total square meters.
- Divide the total area by 2.88 sq.m (the area of a standard 8ft x 4ft board) to find the board quantity. Always add a few extra sheets for cutting and wastage.
Step 2: Establishing Ceiling Levels
- Use a laser level or hose pipe to establish a perfectly flat level across the entire room.
- Mark a continuous, long line using a chalk line marker.
- Use steel nails to fix the perimeter Gypsum Channels (tracks/rails) right below this marked line along the walls.
Step 3: Constructing the Metal Frame (The Structure)
- Install the first layer of metal studs running from perimeter channel to channel, maintaining a 600mm center-to-center gap.
- Install a second layer of studs perpendicular to the first, creating a support structure. Secure the layers together using drywall screws.
- For Roof Installations: Anchor the frame to the roof rafters using supporting studs. For high roofs, steel tubes may be required as structural support members.
- For Concrete Slab Installations: Secure the frame directly to the slab using wall angles and 2- or 3-inch screws, or use roll bolts with steel tubes if the slab requires extra reinforcement.
Step 4: Utility Provisions
Install all necessary wiring and piping—including electrical, audio, CCTV, and HVAC ducts—before mounting the gypsum boards. This is critical, especially for slab installations where access will be limited after board installation.
Step 5: Fixing Gypsum Boards
- Begin fixing the 9mm gypsum boards onto the completed metal frame.
- Start from the center of the room and ensure board joints are staggered (not aligned across different rows) for better structural integrity.
- Use a utility knife to cut panels to size where needed.
- (Proceed to Step 6 for designer ceilings; otherwise, proceed to Step 8 for a flat ceiling finish.)
Step 6: Creating Bulk Heads (Design Ceilings)
- Lightly draw the desired geometrical design onto the installed flat ceiling.
- Fix perimeter channels or drywall angles along the pencil guidelines.
- Ensure the entire design structure is firmly secured to the structural studs beneath the gypsum boards.
Step 7: Final Architectural Touches
- Cut provisions for all fixtures, including recessed lights and ceiling access doors.
- (Optional): Install decorative elements like fiber cornices (flexible and smooth) or gypsum cornices (made from Plaster of Paris) along the wall-ceiling edge.
Step 8: Finishing and Skimming
- Apply Gypsum Fiber Tape over all board joints to prevent cracking.
- Apply 2 coats of Gyproc gypsum filler (joint compound) over the taped joints.
- (Optional): For the smoothest possible finish, skim the entire ceiling surface with joint filler.
Step 9: Painting
- Sand down the joints/skimming using P80 grit sandpaper until all bumps and imperfections are eliminated.
- Apply two coats of high-quality undercoat paint (like Crown Cover matt).
- Finish with a final coat of Vinyl Matt Paint or apply other decorative finishes like wallpaper or murals.
